My Book - Tales from the Garden City

I had been at it for some time now. For the last couple of months (or more), I have been working on gathering the stories that I had written as a hobby, face-lifting them and getting them ready to be read by others. Last year, I had sent some of them to some known publishers in India to see if they would be interested in making a book of it. Many of them responded (after 4-5 months of anxious waiting!) saying that they aren't interested (of course, in a much more polished way!). I had found these publishers through the Internet, and manuscript submissions were made as their sites directed. I like to believe that my manuscript was rejected because they did not come with any "credentials" (I am not a known writer, nor did I approach them through a literary agent).

Finally in April of this year I had this idea of self-publishing.

My collection of short stories, Tales from the Garden City, based in Bangalore (as the name implies) and written over the last few years, is published by Cinnamonteal Print And Publishing.

For several reasons, I am glad I took this step. Just as in everything else, there have been lessons to learn in this trip as well. I will share some of those interesting experiences as we travel along.

If you think Print-on-Demand, think CinnamonTeal. You will not regret it.

  2. A writer of many years, I Toast your success! This is amazing, because I see a parallel between what musicians must do to get a CD out and what writers must do to be published. I have two books in revision and at least one will be self-published. This post is an inspiration! :)

  5. The opening story sounds familar... when my daughter was small and we lived out west, in the desert, she was intent on watching the sky. The new moon was always a highlight and she'd come running, when the crescent was just visible over the western hills, shouting "Daddy, daddy, the moon is back, the moon is back" and we'd go to the window or out on the porch and watch it sink beyond the horizon. Nice writing!

  7. Wonderful! I self-published a book too. It was about losing two brothers a month apart in 2001 and it spurred a reunion where we grew up and is used in a grief and loss class at a nearby university. I found you via Netchick.

  8. congrats to you
for me, the mother I chose for my children lacked love, or poorly expressed it, so I learned more and was able to give more, while becoming less.
    the sacrifice was worth it.
I want to read your book

  10. Congrats Jeena!
Not everyone has got the guts to believe in what they think they are. It is good to see that you have already crossed that milestone. An achievement in itself. Wish you all the best for crossing more such milestones.

Hope and hardwork can take any one where he/she wants to go. I wish you good luch and the best for all the future challenges!

  11. Hi Jeena,
Great work...Many Congratulations... I know how difficult it is to get self publication... I have gone through all this for my first book's self publication... Very sad to know that these known publishers treat new comers so badly...
Coming back to your book, its title is very much impressive... May GOD bless you... I wish many more publications from you (ofcourse not self publication :-) )

    Cheers!
